About

Basic Survival gives you the essential skills to stay alive when things go wrong in the wilderness. You will learn the survival priorities, how to build shelter, make fire, find and purify water, signal for rescue and look after yourself and others. The online lessons also prepare you for the optional 72-hour field course in Edmundston, New Brunswick, taught using the Educate, Demonstrate, Imitate method. Online course: $200 CAD. The in-person field course in Edmundston, NB is booked separately at $300 CAD. Level: Beginner. 6 modules, 9 lessons (approx. 2–3 hours online plus drills). Prerequisite: None. Ability to walk 2–4 km carrying about 10 kg. Includes: lessons, field drills, quizzes, narrated slide deck and a downloadable course manual. Instructor: Steve Matte, SATS founder, 20-year Canadian Armed Forces veteran and former JTF2 member. Safety: survival training carries real risk. Read the Safety and Liability Notice in the first lesson before starting.
